Many of the world’s cities are currently facing a serious housing shortage. What are some of the reasons for this shortage and what solutions can you suggest? (At least 250 words.)
In today’s world, many developed countries’ cities now confront with the fact that their supply of houses is unable to meet the demand for shelters. This alarming problem is caused by several reasons, and luckily, there are some potential solutions to this issue.
There are two main reasons why housing shortage occurs. The first and most considerable reason is that while the worldwide population is increasing constantly, the amount of land does not increase. Therefore, we do not have sufficient land space to meet people’s demand for accommodation, especially in big cities. Another cause of this problem is the massive immigration of the cities is not governed and managed strictly, which means that refugees from other countries will add up to the city’s overpopulation and be part of burden on the housing supply.
However, we still have some practical and feasible solutions to tackle this housing problem. Firstly, the governments should build more housing blocks and encourage the citizens to build multi-story houses instead of bungalows. This will mitigate the problem of land scarcity. Secondly, it is highly recommended that governments restrict the increase in population by laying down laws on family planning. In China, to keep its huge population under control, Chinese lawmakers impose One-child policy on every single family of their society. Last but not least, governments also need to limit the number of immigrants allowed to move into the cities in a certain period of time to prevent overpopulation from occurring.
In conclusion, housing shortage is increasingly becoming a severe problem for many cities, and arises mainly because of the overpopulation and land space shortage. Therefore, it is critical that governments should take action and implement appropriate policies to solve this concerning issue.
