Some people believe that using animals to test the safety of human medicines is cruel and unwarranted whereas others feel it is a medical necessity. Which opinion do you agree? (At least 250 words.)
Animal experimentation is an controversial issue these days. It is often said that animals should not be used in examining human medicines because it is cruel and unwarranted, while there is other idea approving of using animal on drug testing.
Supporters of these experiments may say that we must do tests on animals because many famous lifesaving medicines were invented in this way, thus animal experiments may help us to find more cures in the future. However, it is worth taking into account that although some kinds of animals like money resembles human in figures and organism to a certain extent, animals and human are still biologically different. Therefore, there can occur cases in which the drugs may work on animals, but do not effect on human or even cause side-effects or fatal pains. It is undeniable that examining drugs on animals may not bring the safety that its proponents claim. Furthermore, the animals which are used are not usually wild but are bred especially for experiments. Therefore, animal experimentation is considered to be responsible for the decrease in number of wild animals on the planet. More importantly, animal experimentation is callous and causes them a lot of pain or even deaths, which is highly unacceptable and immoral.
After contemplating the pros and cons of using animals to test human medicines, it can be clearly seen that the benefits can not outweigh the disadvantages, and drug testing on animals should not continue. Although it may help in medicine invention and find new cures to save human’s life, it is not fair that innocent animals should be suffered in order to achieve this.
